Tackling the Cable Chaos

Table of Contents

Introduction

If you’re anything like me, you’ve probably experienced those frustrating moments when you need a cable, but it is nowhere to be found, or even worse, it is tangled up in a mess of other cords. As someone who loves tech gadgets, I know how quickly cables can pile up and become a problem. That is when I stumbled upon a smart way to store cables neatly.

Before/After

In this article, I will share how I used the Gridfinity system to sort out my cable mess.

How the Gridfinity System Helped

The Gridfinity system is a modular organization solution designed to bring order to chaotic spaces. It consists of a grid base and a series of stackable bins that are available in different sizes. What is great about Gridfinity is that it is not limited to cables, you can customize it for different kinds of applications. People use it and share printables for organizing various tools, office supplies, small gadgets, and more.

It is worth noting that to get started with Gridfinity, you will need access to a 3D printer to print the bins and grid. I don’t own one myself, so I reached out to a friend who was kind enough to help me print the parts. The entire setup cost me around $40 for the plastic materials, and the printing process took about 24 hours in total (if we dont count experiments and failed parts). Once I had everything, setting up the system was quite straightforward. The bins fit perfectly into a grid base, allowing me to arrange them in the way that best fits my needs and storage space.

For my IKEA drawer, Gridfinity was the perfect solution. Before, my cables were all tangled together in a drawer, making it a hassle to find the one I needed. With the system in place, I was able to separate and organize my cables by type and length, and now each one has its own spot. Each bin holds specific types of cables, e.g. HDMI, USB, charging cables and others. The same logic applies to dongles and adapters.

With this setup, I can find any cable I need in the matter of seconds. No more digging through a mess!

Conclusion

If you’re struggling with cable clutter or really any kind of small item storage, Gridfinity might be just the solution you need. It is versatile enough and works well for tech enthusiasts alike. Plus, it doesn’t take much effort to set up once you have the parts. I hope this article gives you some inspiration to work on your own organization projects and make your space a little tidier.

Happy organizing!
